Our Story

Cooked the way Gogo taught us

Ekhaya began in a small kitchen with a big pot. Chef Sikhululo “Lulo” Mhlaba grew up beside his grandmother’s three-legged potjie, learning that patience is the first ingredient and that no one leaves a home hungry.

Those childhood Sundays — wood smoke, pap steaming under a cloth, cousins crowding the yard — are the recipes we still cook today. Every stew, every braai fire, every plate carries a family memory with it.

Lulo opened Ekhaya in Knysna to keep those traditions alive and to share South African food culture with every visitor who walks through the door, whether they grew up here or found us on the way through.
